Proper Authority for Marriage
It
is good that followers of Jesus Christ are called to re-think things that most
folks (including us) were trained to just take for granted. The "Marriage
License" is one of them. There are many reasons why followers of Christ
should NOT use the state marriage license. Here are a few:
-
Doing so provides an active testimony that "says" the
state is the Lord of your marriage.
-
By definition (check out any decent law dictionary) a
license is "permission granted from a sovereign to do that which would
otherwise be unlawful."
-
A marriage license creates the legal nexus for Child
Protective Services and the entire body of "Family Law."
-
God does not give authority to the civil magistrate to
rule over or regulate any aspect of marriage. Where authority
is not granted, none exists.
-
The system of civil law and established public policy
that we now have is officially set against the godly family, therefore
it is even more egregious for followers of Jesus Christ to officially
designate them as the "over-seer" and authorizer of your marriage, or
marriage in general.
-
Marriage establishes the family. When we apply
for a marriage license we testify falsely that the state establishes
the family. As followers of Jesus Christ we are not to bear false
witness.
-
Yahweh is the Lord of marriage, the family and everything
else. We are to look to him for every need in these matters.
To do otherwise is to bear false witness to His character and authority.
-
The church is the "pillar and ground of truth."
When we as individuals and especially as leaders in the church go along
with these anti-Christ schemes we are with our actions lifting the state
to a position that belongs only to our professed Lord and King.
REMEMBER WHAT YOUR MOTHER TAUGHT YOU: ACTIONS SPEAK LOUDER THAN WORDS.
The Bible puts it more like this... "they honor me with their lips but
their hearts are far from me."
|
May
we each learn to examine our testimony:
Not
so much the one that we speak with our lips, but the one that we "speak" with
our hands and feet.
