It Takes Work and Faith to be a Successful Family Band...Our family band has been performing for the last six years or so, however my wife & I have been involved in music & stage performance for over 20 years together, and I another 10 years before! We perform with the oldest four of our six children, but with the two youngest joining in on some specialty songs. We enjoy traveling and sharing our Farnum Family flavored music with folks at churches, fairs, festivals, schools, private engagements and at Silver Dollar City. As a homeschool family we usually have the flexibility to travel whenever and wherever an occasion might warrant. My current booking procedure involves the following steps… first, I determine a target audience (church, fair or festival, school, etc.) and glean preliminary information simply from an internet search. Most of my bookings are achieved by making the proverbial "cold-call" (however many are referrals from other family bands or past engagements). Next, I determine the proper decision-maker and introduce myself, giving a brief overview of our family & music ministry, entertainment, and/or educational value for the respective venue (i.e. church, fair or festival, school, etc.). If interested, I offer to make an immediate follow-up by sending a ‘get-acquainted’ email, offering it as a means of seeing our smiling faces and learning more about our family & family music. An example follows… Hello (Contact Person): Thank you for taking my call… We’d like to introduce you to music performance by the Farnum Family. We would be very pleased to share our Bluegrass/Gospel/Irish/Old-Time Western Music Show for your next community or special event in 2011 / 2012. In the last few years we have been pleased to share our family music for a variety of family-oriented events. In fact, it is possible that you or someone you know may have already seen us at Silver Dollar City, the Ozark Folk Center, a local church or some other venue. We also offer a school assembly program: American Heritage Music. For your convenience, we've attached a printable promo document, including some pictures for a glimpse of our family. To hear what we sound like, please go to our website and direct your attention to our Products page & click on some of the song titles listed under our Folk Psalms and Come and Rejoice albums. For a taste of our old-time family-style music, be sure to sample our Tomato Pickin’ album. And for availability, please check our Calendar page. We’ll look forward to hear from you, or will follow-up with a call in a short time. Thank you. In His Service & Yours, Norm & Trish Farnum 417 337-3432 The Farnum Family is now on facebook
The general format is as
illustrated above and includes the mentioned attachment, but some
details change slightly depending on the venue being pursued (I keep a
general template for each). I try to always make at least one follow-up
call to make the booking, determine their level of interest for a future
booking, or move on…
Hope this will be of some help to you and other family bands! |
